In a book just published in the USA, Alice Echols (who is – this is very American – a history professor and former disco deejay) argues that Saturday Night Fever and Studio 54 and Donna Summer and all that schtick added up to “a hotbed of social change”. If your response is “Uh???” you need to read the New York Times review of “Hot Stuff – Disco And The Remaking Of American Culture”. For a bit of compare-and-contrast you might want to visit the Kinace website and read my own rather less starry-eared opinion of the disco phenomenon. The records are still selling.
